PROFESSIONAL TEETH WHITENING
What is Teeth whitening?
Teeth whitening works by using carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide gel to break down staining built up on the tooth surface to make your teeth appear whiter.
This is usually done with custom-made trays which tightly fit around your teeth and hold the gel in place. The trays are worn until you are happy with the shade then will require to top up periodically.
How long does it take?
This takes as little or as long for you to be happy with the shade. With our home teeth whitening kits you are in the driving seat. We recommend wearing the trays overnight for best results and should have a noticeable change within a week or two. Use may be extended to achieve a greater change in shade.
Why is it important for this be done professionally?
It is illegal for anyone other than a dental professional to carry out teeth whitening in the UK. A dentist will assess your teeth to make sure that whitening is safe and appropriate for you to have done. By instructing the services of a non-dental professional or ordering DIY kits online you run the risk of damage to your teeth, burning of gums and possible allergic reaction. This is due to use of unregulated products and lack of professional dental training with inadequate whitening trays.

Is it Safe?
Teeth whitening carried out professionally is safe and does not damage the teeth. You may experience some degree of sensitivity following teeth whitening treatment, however, this is usually temporary and subsides very quickly. At Borland and Morton Dental Care we use Dental White Beauty whitening gel with their patented Novon technology which has been proven to reduce sensitivity compared to alternative whitening gels.

I've heard of laser teeth whitening - is it better?
There is a lot of hype about laser teeth whitening, although, there is little to no evidence to suggest there is any benefit to this other than clever marketing. Laser teeth whitening is carried out by warming of the whitening gel by a light which may slightly increase the effectiveness of the gel. Any noticeable change is caused by the result of temporary dehydration of the teeth, drying them and fades very quickly.
How much does it cost?
Our teeth whitening costs £275 which includes an assessment of your mouth, custom-made trays made specifically for you and a whitening kit to take home which contains 4 gel syringes (more than enough to provide a noticeable change in shade). Further top-up syringes are also available for £35 each following purchase of your whitening kit.
